In New York, we’re advocating for a good jobs and equity policy, called a Manufacturing Careers Policy, at the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the nation’s largest transportation agency. This policy would create good manufacturing jobs by applying our signature good jobs and equity policy, as well as critical job retraining provisions to ensure a just transition for frontline workers, to all of the agency’s purchases of manufactured equipment.
“As the largest transit agency in the country, the MTA can be a leader in ensuring that our new electric buses are manufactured for transit agencies in workplaces with decent wages and working conditions. Our public transit money should be invested in jobs that lift up our communities. As stewards of the public’s money, we hope the state legislature can continue to hold them accountable to do so,” said Miranda Nelson, our NY/NJ director, in testimony to the state legislature.
