Basil Salem (he/him) is the Illinois Senior Policy Advisor at Jobs to Move America. He has over a decade of experience organizing and advocating for workers seeking union recognition. Prior to joining JMA, Basil worked with the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC) on their research and media teams where he focused on supporting workers affected by the pandemic. He also has a background in higher-ed labor advocacy. He served as a graduate student union organizer at the University of Chicago, where he helped build union membership and advocate for union recognition.
Basil received his PhD in history from the University of Chicago. In his spare time, he loves to spend time with his family and enjoy the outdoors.
