In 2019, Jobs to Move America and the ElectrifyNY coalition successfully pushed the country’s largest transit agency, New York’s MTA, to commit to transitioning its entire bus fleet to zero emissions buses by 2040. The MTA’s fleet comprises more than 5,700 buses.
In its most recent capital plan, the MTA announced plans to kickstart this transition with a purchase of 500 EV buses between 2020 and 2024.
