Andre Steele

Illinois Lead Organizer

Andre is an organizer/activist with labor unions and the community. Before joining JMA, he built a career in organizing people of color, low-wage workers, and immigrants over the past 20 years.

He organized with Unite Here Locals 11/23 in Los Angeles and Houston, and also organized with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Los Angeles Black Workers Center, fighting for good union contracts that provide good wages and affordable health insurance. He also fought for jobs for Black workers on the Crenshaw Metro project.

Andre is originally from Chicago, and he is very pleased to be able to help the community where he was born and grew up. He’s looking forward to bringing his skills to JMA to keep transforming public spending of government funds to create good manufacturing jobs in underserved communities of low-wage workers, people of color, and immigrants.

Outside of work, Andre enjoys traveling, Chicago house music, concerts, everything outdoors, and spending time with family.
