Job Summary
The Fall 2022 National Research Intern will develop research and policy skills while advancing JMA’s research into the electric vehicle (EV) industry. JMA is organizing to pass policies and win community benefits agreements that create inclusive, family-sustaining careers and center workers and communities in the transition to clean energy and transportation. Research topics will include EV battery manufacturing and the burgeoning North American electric trucks sector. The National Research Intern will receive training and mentorship on key research skills, and will have the opportunity to learn more about climate and environmental justice, the labor movement, and electric vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct literature reviews to identify and synthesize existing information resources on identified sectors
  • Use publicly available information to collect information on the heavy-duty vehicle sector, especially EVs.
  • Create and build out spreadsheets and documents to keep track of research findings.
  • Present, draft memoranda, and participate in discussions to share findings with JMA staff and allies.

Qualifications & Work Experience Requirements:

  • Demonstrated desire to promote economic, racial, and/or environmental justice
  • Current undergraduate, graduate student, recent graduate, or career-changer; studying or with a degree in a relevant field, including urban planning, public policy, geography, earth sciences, economics, sociology, political science, and other related fields.
  • Strong writing and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Curiosity and interest in learning new things
