What You’ll Do ─  Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Faith-based Organizer is responsible for growing the network of clergy leaders that are engaged in our campaigns to win equity-based good jobs, climate justice & accountability policies.  The Faith-based Organizer pays special attention to organizing key clergy leaders in various faith communities within Central Alabama that can contribute to advancing our vision of public goods for the most public good.  

  • Develop substantial 1:1 relationships through regular meetings and consistent follow-up with key stakeholders in the faith based community
  • Develop plans that clergy, community members, union/organizational partners and/or other key stakeholders are supported to contribute to JMA campaigns and projects in meaningful ways 
  • Act as an effective spokesperson for JMA’s vision, work and campaigns  
  • Recruit new partners to join or support our faith and labor table, coalitions and advocacy efforts
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures, including timely attention to administrative responsibilities
  • Contribute to JMA’s organizational development, for example assisting with fundraising, providing peer evaluations, and participating in JMA staff committees (not to exceed 15% of time)
  • Contribute to the development of campaign strategy through regular power mapping, analysis of the faith community landscape and identification of opportunities to build the power we need in order to win

About you ─ Required Qualifications: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate JMA’s work to the public 
  • Demonstrated commitment to faith-rooted advocacy, economic and racial justice, and the labor movement in BIPOC communities.
  • Must have familiarity with and cultural competence to work with southern faith-based communities.
  • Self-starter that can take initiative with limited guidance and sometimes with short notice. 
  • Ability to continually assess and deepen the commitment of key stakeholders, through regular 1:1s, thoughtful asks, and securing of commitments
  • Maintain a high level of timely follow-up to follow through on commitments – both personal commitments made as well as commitments made by partners  
  • Maintain flexibility: be ready to take advantage of unexpected opportunities and adapt quickly to change 
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, empathy, and social skills in work and interpersonal interactions
  • At least 3 years organizing experience in either advocacy spaces, faith-based spaces, labor, or political spaces
  • Familiarity with Google Suite 

Other Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be located in Central Alabama
  • Must have a vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance. This role requires a lot of commuting
  • A willingness to work non-traditional hours for special events and networking opportunities (could be up to 25% of your time)  

What Else You Should KnowCompensation/Benefits: 

  • Salary Range $52,000 ─  $69,000
  • JMA pays 100 percent of medical, dental, and vision premium
  • Generous PTO: 12 days paid vacation, 12 sick days, 9 federal holidays, 12 personal days per year, 2 floating holidays
  • Annual increases
  • JMA contributes 5% of the employee salary towards their 401k plan after 6 months of employment
