Chueqa’s journey in community organizing began with a focus on Asian American advocacy through re-establishing the Asian Student Union at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2016. Not knowing what exactly organizing was, this led them to attend Organizer school from the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table in 2020 and spearheaded grassroots get-out-the-vote programming and canvassing and housing advocacy justice with the South of Downtown Community Development Organization. Their experience in community movement, whether that is through voting rights restoration or advocating for human rights, has always recognized the power of collective action. A core principle of Chueqa’s work is always centering community first. This approach ensures that the needs and voices of the people are prioritized in all initiatives. Their work continues to inspire and uplift, ensuring that every community member has the opportunity to be heard and to thrive.
Chueqa is thankful for all of their mentors, friends, and activists who continue to shape their advocacy: Sylvia, Kinzie, Zack, Heather, Allie, Karina, Isabel, Oria and Kat.
Outside of advocacy, they have a deep appreciation for local art and community events, fishing with their partner, going on long walks with their adorable chihuahua mutt, Winston, and traveling.
