We are excited to invite you to join Jobs to Move America on our third Alabama Learning Trip from October 6-9th! With each experience, we aim to provide evolving insights into the growth of our campaigns, priorities, and the changing economic and social landscapes in the South. This trip will be different from the two that preceded it. In the midst of a rapidly evolving political climate, workers and communities are organizing more than ever to protect the rights and livelihoods of working-class people against rapidly expanding corporate interests. JMA is excited to show you how we’re organizing workers and communities to seek community benefits agreements with major corporations to ensure good jobs and minimize environmental harm in the clean energy economy.

This is a chance to contribute meaningfully to the worker organizing and corporate accountability efforts in the Deep South and to explore the history, culture, and community development of the Southern labor movement more deeply. It’s crucial to see and learn in person to truly grasp the significance of organizing in the South and the potential of what we can achieve when we come together in the movement. This year, we’ll be exploring:

  • Birmingham— JMA’s Southern base, is steeped in civil rights and worker organizing history. See the vision for a worker organizing center and meet coalition and community partners who are leading the new Southern worker movement from within.
  • Anniston– Site of the New Flyer electric vehicle factory where JMA negotiated a historic Community Benefits Agreement for thousands of workers and their community.
  • Montgomery— We’ll be discussing our new CBA campaign points.  Meet with workers, our coalition members and UAW organizers, and learn about JMA’s recent research on prison labor in conjunction with Columbia Labor Lab.
  • Along the way, learn the history of Black worker organizing that has led to the movement of today, spoken through community, civil rights and labor leaders on the ground fighting for a better Alabama.
